About Us:
The American Library Association Student Chapter, School of Information, College of Communication and Information at Florida State University was created:
- To facilitate and encourage participation in the American Library Association.
- To increase awareness and use of the resources of the American Library Association, including publications, promotional materials, scholarships, and conferences.
- To increase awareness of national issues in library and information studies.
- To provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and information about issues, trends, and opportunities in the profession.
- To develop skills and relationships that will enable students to have a creative impact on the profession.
- To promote involvement in professional activities beyond the classroom.
- To provide professional and social networking for students in the LIS program at FSU.
ALA History:

Chapter History:
“As one of 49 active Student Chapter groups, This ALA Student Chapter seeks to promote the growth of its members in accordance with ALA standards, and is supported by the School of Library & Information Studies and the College of Communication & Information. Founded in 1988, this chapter was the 14th to be officially recognized by ALA.”
“By becoming a member of ALA, FSU students gain access to lower membership rates, career opportunities, discounts, national conferences, job listings, newsletters, and invaluable networking opportunities, among other benefits. Student members of ALA can also apply for the Student-to-Staff position at the ALA annual conference. Those chosen as a representative will receive free conference registration and housing in exchange for four hours of volunteer work per day. Students also have the opportunity to join the Florida Library Association at a discounted price when joining ALA.
